LIFE AT OX-BOW IN THE "RADICAL 1960s"
RECALLED AT JULY 20 "TUESDAY TALK"

One of Jack Sheridan's favorite photo mysteries is this view of woodland nymphs, thought to have been shot by Herman Simonson and somehow related to Ox-Bow. Does anyone know?

JULY 9, 2010 -- An intimate look at Ox-Bow during the mid-1960s and 70s, visualized with a collection of rare, never-exhibited photos, will highlight the Saugatuck-Douglas Historical Society "Tuesday Talk" on July 20 in the Old School House Discovery Center, 130 Center Street, Douglas. The one-hour program begins at 11 a.m.; admission is free and public attendance is invited.

Presenting "Life at Ox-Bow; The Radical 1960s", Douglas artist/author Judy Bowman Anthrop will guide the audience through the Ox-Bow campus of that era, looking at its built environment and activities and how they reflect the growth and development of the school, based on research for her recently published book "A Portrait Of Ox-Bow: Architecture - Art - Artists". Audience participation is welcomed to enliven the discussion with questions, personal memories and old photographs from private collections.

The July 20 Talk is sponsored by Harbor Duck Adventures, a summertime attraction in Saugatuck and Douglas familiar for its World War II Army amphibious vessel serving as a big water taxi touring the towns both by road and the waters of Kalamazoo River and Saugatuck Harbor.

Tuesday Talks with varying topics and sponsors will be held throughout the summer, concluding August 31, in the west exhibit room at The Old School House. Free but limited parking is available in the Old School House driveway, with more along Center Street and nearby side streets.

For a full schedule of Tuesday Talks, and more information about the Historical Society, its Museum and its Old School House Discovery Center, visit www.sdhistoricalsociety.org.
