One of Jack Sheridan's favorite
photo mysteries is this view of woodland nymphs, thought to have
been shot by Herman Simonson and somehow related to Ox-Bow. Does
anyone know? |
JULY 16, 2010 -- "Jack's Photo Mysteries Game",
in which old photographs shot in the Saugatuck and Douglas area
challenge viewers to identify the scene, people and era depicted,
will enliven the Saugatuck- Douglas Historical Society "Tuesday
Talk" on July 27 in the Old School House Discovery Center, 130
Center Street, Douglas. The one-hour program begins at 11 a.m.;
admission is free and public attendance is invited.
Presenter Jack Sheridan, avid volunteer in
Historical Society digital photo archiving, is in his seventh year
of creating the "History Mystery" feature appearing in The
Commercial Record. He also authored History by Camera:
Saugatuck & Douglas Photographs 1870-1970, published in
2008, offering rare historical views ranging up to 140 years old.
Audience participation is welcomed to help identify unknown photos,
ask questions, and share personal memories and old photographs from
private collections.
The July 27 Talk is sponsored by Osman’s Flowers
and Firs, an 11-year vendor at the Saturday Holland Farmers Market
offering products of their Holland area farm including vegetable
plants, hanging flower baskets, dried flower arrangements and
wreaths. Jane Osman is a past officer of the Historical Society.
