"PLEIN AIR" PAINTING TECHNIQUES
SHOWN AT AUG. 31 "TUESDAY TALK"

Kalamazoo artist Richard Jordan paints plein air dune scene.

AUG. 20, 2010 -- "In The Open Air", an introduction to the "Plein Air" painting techniques inherent in the Ox-Bow experience, will highlight the Saugatuck-Douglas Historical Society "Tuesday Talk" on August 31 in the Old School House Discovery Center, 130 Center Street, Douglas. The one-hour program begins at 11 a.m.; admission is free and public attendance is invited.

Presenter Maryjo Lemanski, owner of Saugatuck's Water Street Gallery, will discuss the appeal, methods and process of painting outdoors in natural daylight, which was one of the primal attractions that drew artists here to create the Ox-Bow art colony 100 years ago. Her talk will include hands-on activities and an

open discussion on how to appreciate and understand the aesthetic qualities of paint. Audience participation is welcomed to enliven the discussion with comments and questions.

This Tuesday Talk is sponsored by Water Street Gallery in Douglas, a contemporary fine art gallery featuring original work by both renowned and emerging artists in painting, sculpture and glass, currently showing "American Road Trip", landscapes by a selection of 13 artists.

Free but limited parking is available in the Old School House driveway, with more along Center Street and nearby side streets.
