AUG. 20, 2010 -- "In The Open Air", an
introduction to the "Plein Air" painting techniques inherent in the
Ox-Bow experience, will highlight the Saugatuck-Douglas Historical
Society "Tuesday Talk" on August 31 in the Old School House
Discovery Center, 130 Center Street, Douglas. The one-hour program
begins at 11 a.m.; admission is free and public attendance is
invited.
Presenter Maryjo Lemanski, owner of Saugatuck's
Water Street Gallery, will discuss the appeal, methods and process
of painting outdoors in natural daylight, which was one of the
primal attractions that drew artists here to create the Ox-Bow art
colony 100 years ago. Her talk will include hands-on activities and
an

open discussion on how to appreciate and
understand the aesthetic qualities of paint. Audience participation
is welcomed to enliven the discussion with comments and questions.
This Tuesday Talk is sponsored by
Water Street Gallery in
Douglas, a contemporary fine art gallery featuring original work by
both renowned and emerging artists in painting, sculpture and glass,
currently showing "American Road Trip", landscapes by a selection of
13 artists.
Free but limited parking is available in the Old
School House driveway, with more along Center Street and nearby side
streets.
