Big Pavilion by Martha (Deam) Severt
Painting
Martha Severt, "Big Pavilion", 1983 - Oil on canvas, framed.
Severt studied art at the Ox-Bow Summer School and the university of Pennsylvania and is a Saugatuck resident. She is well-known locally for a whimsical poster-map of the Saugatuck area.
The artist uses different paint application techniques to enhance the perception of different kinds of texture and surface. The linear "coloring book" image recalls the iconic dance-hall which had been lost to fire a quarter century earlier.
