Blue and white transfer ware sauce dish (bowl) from Wood and Sons in England. Dish has blue and white reverse print scrolling thistle design around rim. Distinctive Wood and Sons floral arrangement with angular garden wall motif in reserve of bowl. Makers mark identifes style as Wincanton from Wood and Sons, England, a firm active in Staffordshire from 1865-2005 with mark dating from after 1907.

Notes: "the blue English-made sauce dish, I took from the only house that I ever saw in Singapore. Jessie Veits, my great Aunt took "Pinkie" Marianne Funk and me on a hike to the Dennison property, Singapore area. We were all surprised to see that the sands had shifted over the winter and a small amount of a house was showing." Quote from a letter submitted by the donor written in September 2005. Based on life dates with Marianne Funk born in 1933, estimate date of find from late 1930s to 1940s. Status: OK Status Date: 2007-04-09
